About us

Who we are

The Health Evangelist is a public health education and advocacy initiative dedicated to promoting healthier individuals, communities, and societies.

Recognising that health extends beyond individual choices, we promote health literacy, community engagement, and evidence-informed advocacy to address barriers to better health and inspire meaningful change.

Our story

How we started

  1. The Health Evangelist was born from a deeply held conviction: that health is a right, not a privilege, and that access to good health knowledge should never be limited by geography, language, or circumstance.

  2. Founded by Verena Achick-Muyu, a nurse leader and public health advocate, the platform grew from years of frontline experience working across health systems and communities. Verena witnessed how gaps in health literacy contributed to preventable illness, inequitable care, and unnecessary suffering, and she set out to close those gaps through education, storytelling, and community engagement.

  3. Today, The Health Evangelist reaches individuals and communities through school health programs, outreach initiatives, and a digital magazine, all grounded in evidence-based practice and a genuine commitment to equity.

Health is a right, not a privilege.

The conviction The Health Evangelist was founded on.

Our mission

To bridge the gap between health knowledge and everyday living through education, community engagement and advocacy, while addressing barriers to better health and supporting stronger healthcare systems.

Our vision

A world where everyone has the knowledge, opportunities and support to live healthier, longer and more fulfilling lives, regardless of their background or circumstances.
