What we collect, why we collect it, and how to have it removed. Written to be read.

In short

  • We collect very little

Your email address, and your name if you give it, when you subscribe or write to us.

  • We use it for one thing

To send you the magazine you asked for, or to reply to your message.

  • No trackers

This site has no advertising or analytics trackers.

  • You stay in control

Unsubscribe from any email, or ask us to delete what we hold.

Who we are

The Health Evangelist is a public health education platform founded by Verena Achick-Muyu. We decide how the personal information described on this page is used.

You can reach us about anything on this page at contact@thehealthevangelist.org or +49 176 34120645.

What we collect and why

We only collect what each of these needs. If you never subscribe, write to us or donate, we hold nothing that identifies you beyond ordinary server logs.

When you subscribe to the magazine

What
Your email address, your first name if you give it, and the date you subscribed.
Why
To email you when a new issue is published. We send these emails because you asked for them.
How long
Until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing deletes your details from our mailing list.

When you send us a message

What
Your name, email address and message, plus your organisation and country if you add them. The message also carries your IP address, your browser type and the time it was sent.
Why
To reply to you, and to stop spam and misuse of the form.
How long
Your message is delivered to our email inbox; it is not stored on the website. To limit spam, the website keeps a scrambled form of your IP address with the times of recent messages.

When you apply to volunteer

What
Your name, email address, where you are based, how you would like to help and how much time you can give, plus your phone number and a few words about yourself if you add them. The copy emailed to us also carries your IP address and browser type, to stop spam and misuse of the form.
Why
To get back to you about volunteering and to find the right place for you. You tick a box on the form to agree to this.
How long
Your application is kept in the website’s admin area until we have been in touch and it is no longer needed, or until you ask us to delete it. Write to us at any time and we will remove it.

When you read or download an issue

What
A running total of how many times each issue has been opened or downloaded.
Why
To see which issues are being read.
How long
As totals only. They are not linked to you.

When you donate

What
Donations are taken by Stripe on Stripe’s own pages. Stripe collects your payment details; we never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us that a donation was made, including the name, email address and amount.
Why
To receive your donation and keep a record of it.

Whenever you visit

What
Like almost every website, the servers that host this site record technical details of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested and the browser used.
Why
To keep the site secure and to find and fix problems.
How long
These logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period.

Cookies and your browser

  • One security cookie. When you open the contact page, the site sets a single cookie that protects the form from misuse. It expires after two hours and is not used to track you.
  • Your place in the magazine. The reader remembers the page you reached in an issue and the view you prefer. This is saved in your own browser and is not sent to us.
  • Nothing else. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies or social media trackers. The fonts and scripts on these pages are served from this website, not from other companies.

Who else handles your information

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising. These providers may store information on servers outside the country you live in.

This site links to LinkedIn and Stripe. Once you follow one of those links, that site’s own privacy policy applies.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe. Every magazine email has an unsubscribe link. Using it removes you from the mailing list.
  • Ask us. Email us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you.

If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, data protection law also gives you the right to object to or restrict how we use your information, to receive a copy of it in a portable form, and to complain to your national data protection authority.

We send the magazine with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. We answer messages, keep the site secure and count readership because we have a legitimate interest in running the platform.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
